Day 1: Transfer from Kampala to Lake Victoria boat ride to Ngamba Island
Begin your adventure with a morning (7:00 AM) or afternoon (11:00 AM) session, starting with a briefing and transfer to Lake Victoria. From there, enjoy a scenic 45-minute speedboat ride to Ngamba Island, passing local fishermen and spotting lake birds like cattle egrets and cormorants.
Upon arrival, take in the island’s lush beauty and watch for monitor lizards and vibrant birdlife such as kingfishers, spur-winged lapwings, and African open-billed storks. At the visitor center, learn about the sanctuary’s mission and the rescued chimpanzees who call it home.
Enjoy a refreshing cup of tea before heading to the viewing platform from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, where you’ll observe chimpanzees feeding, playing, and relaxing. Explore the food store and clinic to understand their diet, care routines, and health treatments. Afternoon guests may also assist in food preparation under caregiver supervision.
Return trips depart at 11:45 AM (morning session) and 4:00 PM (afternoon session). On the way back, stop at the equator for a brief demonstration of polar forces and a chance to swim. Your driver will then escort you to your accommodation in Entebbe or Kampala, concluding your unforgettable day with Uganda’s beloved chimpanzees.
